Positive week for the bourse (Posted On 2012-05-18)
Bourse remained sluggish with benchmark ASPI swinging
between positive and negative territories to end the day
marginally firmer from yesterday. Turnover tumbled
further from yesterday as high net worth and institutional
investors remaining in sidelines. Further accumulation was
witnessed in fundamentally strong counters such as DIMO,
Commercial Bank with Ceylon Cold Stores gaining interest.
Retail dominance continued with interest seen in counters
such as Environmental Resources and Blue Diamond nonvoting.
ASPI and MPI gained 2.22% and 1.79% respectively for the
week.
Activity yet to pick up (Posted On 2012-05-17)
Despite the largely positive movement seen in the indices during early trade, market corrected itself to close on a mixed note. Activity remained low with interest seen in speculative counters such as Blue Diamond non-voting, HVA foods, PC Pharma and Amana Takaful. Taprobane Holdings saw its introduction to the bourse today and its share price reached an intraday high of Rs 10.00 but ultimately closed down at Rs 6.90.
Fragile boost to the market (Posted On 2012-05-16)
Despite the considerable positive jump in both indices, activity levels remained low with turnover managing to cross the half a billion mark. Retail activity dominated the market with renewed interest seen in counters such as Free Lanka Capital Holdings, Blue Diamonds and Swarnamahal Financial Services while further accumulation was witnessed in fundamentally sound counters such as Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank and Aitken Spence.
Continuing in green territory (Posted On 2012-05-15)
Indices closed in the green territory throughout the day maintaining yesterdayâ??s recovery. Diversified sector together with the banking finance and insurance sector dominated the bourse contributing to nearly 75% of the dayâ??s turnover levels.
Bourse breaks losing streak (Posted On 2012-05-14)
Market started on a positive note today with ASPI and MPI remaining in the green during early trading. However, much of the gains were subsequently lost with ASPI closing only marginally up ending a run of nine straight sessions of losses. High net worth participation was witnessed in CT Holdings and Commercial bank while Swarnamahal Finance, Environmental Resources saw some speculation.
